The case accommodates pens and pencils up to 16.5 cm long. This is the length of most ballpoint pens, rollerballs, fine liners, highlighters, and already-used pencils. On the other hand, a new pencil of standard length, i.e., about 17.5 cm, does not fit: you will need to have sharpened it a few times. Before ordering, take a ruler and measure your longest instruments. If you mainly use large fountain pens or new pencils, the longer Voyageur CALAME case will be more suitable.

Depending on their diameter, the MINE case holds about 8 to 10 pens or pencils. Thin pencils and ballpoint pens are easily stored by the ten; thick markers or fountain pens will reduce the capacity slightly. To optimize space, store them tip-to-tail, alternating tips and caps. Avoid overfilling the case: the zip must be able to close without forcing, otherwise the leather and the zipper would wear out prematurely. An eraser or a small sharpener can also find their place if you bring fewer pens.

No, it's a design choice. Without a lining, the case remains supple, lighter, and thinner, and contains no fabric or glue that could wear out or peel off over the years: the leather ages as one piece. The inside of the cowhide is simply left natural. The trade-off is that it marks more easily: ink from a poorly closed pen or graphite shavings can leave marks. With well-capped pens and pencils sharpened outside, the case keeps its interior clean for a very long time.

This cowhide leather nourished with oils and waxes requires little attention. Small marks usually fade with a rub of the palm, as the heat makes the oils migrate. Once a year, apply a thin layer of colorless nourishing balm to the exterior, let it penetrate, then polish. For the interior, turn the case inside out and shake it from time to time to remove eraser dust and graphite. Avoid household products, excess water, and direct heat. Over time, the shade darkens and develops nuances: this is the patina.
