Everything you need to know

Cowhide leather 1 cigar There are days when you only take one cigar, but the right one: the one saved for the end of a dinner, a hotel terrace, or after a round of golf. The SOLITAIRE individual cigar case was designed for that very moment. Crafted from cowhide leather, it features a telescopic, two-part construction that slides into one another: the case adjusts to the length of the cigar rather than letting it rattle around. The interior is lined with a beige suede-style lining, which is gentle on the wrapper, and accommodates cigars up to 25 mm in diameter. At 177 mm long and weighing just 50 g, it slips into an inside jacket pocket without distorting the shape. Three shades are available—Brown, Burgundy, and Black—and each case is presented in a black gift box, ready to give.

Available colors

BROWN
BrownThe smoking room classic: a warm brown that pairs as well with tweed as it does with a suit

BLACK

BEIGE LINING
Common to all three colorsBeige suede-style interior, 25 mm inner diameter, black gift box

Cowhide leather and ring gauge: what you need to know

Cowhide leather is the benchmark leather for small leather goods: its grain is dense, consistent, and flexible enough to take on a cylindrical shape without cracking. It withstands repeated handling well—taking the case out, opening it, closing it—and develops a gentle patina over time, especially on the edges and areas where it is held. It is also a material that "breathes" a little, making it pleasant to the touch and less prone to condensation than a plastic shell.

To know if a cigar will fit in the case, look at its ring gauge, the unit that expresses its diameter in sixty-fourths of an inch. A 50 ring gauge corresponds to approximately 19.8 mm, a 54 ring gauge to 21.4 mm, and a 60 ring gauge to 23.8 mm. With a 25 mm inner diameter, the SOLITAIRE accommodates most common cigar sizes, from Coronas to Robustos and Toros, and even generous formats close to a 63 ring gauge, which will fit more snugly.

The elegance of a single cigar

Connoisseurs know that a cigar should not be carried like a pen. If slipped naked into a pocket, it gets crushed, its wrapper splits, and the head gets damaged before it’s even cut. That is why smokers of the past carried their individual case, often made of leather, which followed its owner from the club to the racecourse.

The SOLITAIRE revives this tradition with a clean, streamlined design: a simple leather cylinder, without clasps or superfluous ornamentation, whose two halves slide into each other with slight resistance. You open it in one motion, remove the cigar intact, close it, and put it away. The cowhide leather—available in brown, burgundy, or black—bears the signature of the person who uses it: it develops a patina over time and eventually tells the story of its own evenings.

It is the accessory for the special outing: a wedding, a business dinner, a weekend in the country, a game of golf. A single cigar, but transported with the care it deserves.

Using your case in four steps

1
Open the case. Gently pull the two parts to separate them, without forcing the seams.
2
Slide the cigar in, foot first. The head, which is more fragile, remains near the opening; check that it enters the lining without resistance.
3
Adjust the length. Slide the top part until it grazes the cigar: it is held securely without being compressed.
4
Store it away from heat. An inside jacket pocket, a bag, or a cool glove box: avoid direct sunlight and heat sources.

Individual case, multi-cigar case, or travel humidor?

Criteria SOLITAIRE Case 3 to 4 Cigar Case Travel Humidor
Capacity 1 cigar 3 to 4 cigars 5 to 20 cigars
Bulk Very low, jacket pocket Medium, pocket or bag Dedicated luggage
Ideal duration One outing, one evening One day, one weekend Several days
Humidification No Varies by model Generally yes
Adjustable length Yes, telescopic Varies by model No, fixed compartment
Typical use The evening cigar A day of golf with friends A stay abroad

Good to know: the SOLITAIRE is a transport case, not a humidor. It protects the cigar for a few hours or a day, but it does not regulate humidity. To store your cigars over the long term, keep them in one of our cigar humidors and only take out the one for the day.

Tip: take your cigar out of the humidor just before you leave, and only cut it when you are ready to light it: an intact head travels much better than one that has already been cut. Complete the case with a pocket cigar cutter to be prepared for any situation.

Frequently asked questions

Which cigar sizes fit in the SOLITAIRE case?

The inner diameter is 25 mm, which corresponds to a ring gauge of approximately 63. Therefore, most common sizes fit without difficulty: Corona, Petit Corona, Robusto, Toro, and many intermediate formats. The thickest cigars, close to 25 mm, will be a tighter fit and should be slid in gently. As for length, the case measures 177 mm overall and its two parts slide to adjust: we advise comparing the length of your favorite cigars to this measurement before choosing, particularly for very large formats.

How does the telescopic system work?

The case is made of two cylindrical parts that nest into one another. The cigar is placed in the bottom section, and then the top section is slid down until it gently touches the head of the cigar. The friction between the two leather tubes is enough to keep the unit closed: there are no clasps, magnets, or zippers. There is a two-fold benefit: the cigar is held along its entire length rather than sliding from one end to the other, and the case remains as slim and discreet as possible. To open it, simply pull gently on the two parts.

Is the case made of genuine leather?

Yes. The exterior is cowhide leather, the gold standard for small leather goods, which is dense, supple, and durable. The interior is lined with a beige suede-style material, which is soft on the cigar wrapper. Like any natural leather, the SOLITAIRE may show slight variations in grain and shade from one case to the next, and it develops a patina with use, especially on the edges. These nuances are part of the object's character and do not constitute a defect. Very simple care is enough to keep it in beautiful condition for years.

Can I store a cigar for several days in this case?

That is not its intended purpose. The SOLITAIRE is a transport case: it protects the cigar from impacts and crushing during an outing, an evening, or a day, but it contains no humidification system and does not regulate humidity. After twenty-four to forty-eight hours, a cigar begins to lose its humidity, and its burn may become less even. For long-term storage, keep your cigars in a humidor between 65% and 72% relative humidity, and only take one out when you are ready to leave.

Which color to choose: Brown, Burgundy, or Black?

All three versions share the exact same construction, beige lining, and dimensions; only the leather shade changes. Brown is the most classic color, reminiscent of smoking rooms and clubs, and it develops a patina in the most visible way. Burgundy, with its plum undertones, adds a more personal touch and makes a very lovely gift. Black is the most understated version, ideal with a dark suit or evening wear. If the case is meant to accompany other leather accessories, simply choose the shade closest to your existing leather goods.

How do I care for the leather case?

Maintenance is minimal. Regularly dust the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. If the leather gets wet, wipe it without rubbing and let it dry at room temperature, away from a radiator or hair dryer, which would harden it. Once or twice a year, you can apply a very thin layer of neutral cream for smooth leather, testing it first on a small, inconspicuous area, then buff it. Avoid household cleaners and solvents. Inside, a simple quick brush is enough to remove any tobacco residue.

Is the case delivered in gift packaging?

Yes, each SOLITAIRE case is presented in a black gift box, sober and elegant, which protects it during transport and allows it to be given as-is. All that remains is to add a ribbon or a card. It is an appreciated gift for a birthday, Father's Day, a retirement, or to thank a friend who enjoys cigars. To enhance the gift, you can accompany it with a pocket cigar cutter or a lighter, creating a complete small set for outings.
