Stylized horseHand-painted oil2 backgrounds · 14 sizes

An improbable silhouette that is nevertheless perfectly poised: in Animal Equilibrium, an abstract horse with an elongated body and lowered head stands on four legs as thin and immense as stilts. Its coral red coat, leaning towards orange, is highlighted with fine white and pinkish lines that segment the body, like an assembled sculpture. The entire piece stands out against a dark, velvety background—your choice of deep black or forest green. This oil painting, entirely handmade, reinvents the classic horse theme with humor, poetry, and great economy of means: a single animal, a single vibrant color, a solid background. The result is a graphic and intriguing work that immediately catches the eye and sparks conversation. Fourteen sizes are available in our catalog, from the discreet 40 x 60 cm to the 120 x 180 cm; other measurements can be studied upon request, and the canvas arrives unframed. In a contemporary living room, bedroom, or office, it brings a touch of wild nature treated with elegance, far from conventional equestrian depictions.

Two backgrounds to choose from

Style A
Style A – Black background
Coral horse on textured black: maximum contrast, gallery spirit.
Style B
Style B – Forest green background
Coral horse on deep green: a more natural, cozy atmosphere.

The horse is identical in both styles; only the background changes. Black or green background, the price remains the same: only the size causes it to vary.

The look

The horse, a millennial subject reinvented

From decorated caves to grand hunting paintings, the horse is one of the most represented animals in art history, a symbol of freedom, power, and nobility. Animal Equilibrium takes the opposite stance to this tradition: instead of a heroic gallop, we discover an immobile creature in fragile equilibrium on disproportionate legs, almost like a figure from a circus or a dream.

The painting plays with stylization: volumes are simplified, joints are marked by small white lines, and color is applied in nuanced flat areas with slight variations of red, orange, and pink. The background, worked in dark and irregular strokes, retains a visible texture that provides depth and makes the silhouette vibrate. This balance between figuration and abstraction gives the work its name.

A touch of boldness in decoration

Animal Equilibrium is for those who love works with character. Its offbeat figure adds a hint of humor and surrealism while remaining perfectly restrained thanks to its limited palette. It works as well in a minimalist white and gray interior as it does in a warmer setting with dark walls and leather furniture.

Our photos present it next to a wire chair, above a black leather bench, near a white sofa and a black floor lamp, in an entryway with a herringbone rug, in front of a light wood wall, or, for the green version, in a bedroom with a brick-colored leather armchair that echoes the hue of the horse.

Four steps to choose correctly

1
Choose the background: black for a light wall and a graphic effect, forest green for a warm or natural atmosphere.
2
Think vertical: the silhouette is tall; slender formats like 80 x 140 or 80 x 160 cm highlight it best.
3
Entrust it to a framer upon receipt: it travels unframed and must be mounted before hanging.
4
Add a coral accent in the room: cushion, armchair, or ceramic, like the brick chair in our photo.

Style A or style B?

Criteria Style A – Black Style B – Forest green
Contrast Very strong Softer
Atmosphere Gallery, graphic Nature, cabinet of curiosities
Recommended walls White, light gray, concrete Gray, beige, wood, off-white
Furniture Black, metal, black leather Brown or brick leather, wood, velvet
A horse painted just for you: the artist only begins the canvas upon receipt of your order. The tracing of white lines, the grain of the background, the exact shade of coral: your copy will have its own unique characteristics. As a result of this artisanal process, shipping requires more patience than a ready-made product.
Hanging advice: the horse's head is located in the upper third of the canvas. Place this point at eye level, about 1.55 m from the ground, so that the gaze falls directly on the silhouette when entering the room.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really a horse that is represented?
Yes, the work depicts an abstract horse, intentionally stylized. Its elongated body, low neck, and very thin, disproportionate legs move away from real anatomy to create a poetic, almost unreal silhouette. Some will see an animal grazing, others a figure in balance or an articulated sculpture, due to the fine white lines that mark the joints. That is the whole appeal of this canvas: it evokes the horse through its posture and proportions, while leaving plenty of room for the viewer's imagination.
What is the difference between Style A and Style B?
The subject is exactly the same, only the background changes. Style A presents the coral horse on a deep, slightly textured black background: the contrast is maximal and the silhouette stands out in a very graphic way, ideal for a white or light gray wall. Style B places the horse on a forest green background, softer and more natural, evoking a meadow in the twilight or an English study interior. It particularly pairs well with wood, brown leather, and warm tones. Both styles are the same price for a given size.
In which room should I hang it?
Animal Equilibrium adapts to many spaces. In a living room, it becomes a statement piece above a bench or next to a sofa. In an entryway or hallway, its verticality dresses narrow walls and welcomes visitors with a note of originality. In an office, it adds a touch of personality appreciated by clients and collaborators alike. Style B, forest green, also naturally finds its place in a bedroom with warm tones, as shown in one of our photos, with a brick-colored leather armchair that picks up the horse's color.
Which format for maximum effect?
Since the horse is a tall and narrow figure, slender vertical formats suit it particularly well: 80 x 140, 80 x 160, or 80 x 180 cm accentuate the length of the legs and the sense of balance. For a living room wall or a large space, 100 x 160, 100 x 180, or 120 x 180 cm formats give the work a monumental presence. In a bedroom or office, a medium format like 60 x 80 or 75 x 100 cm remains very legible thanks to the contrast of the dark background. A custom dimension is also possible for a specific location.
Do I need to arrange framing?
Yes: Animal Equilibrium arrives as a loose canvas, without moldings or a stretcher, and the frames in our scenes are for photo purposes only. The first step is to have a professional framer stretch it onto wooden bars cut to your dimensions. On a black background, a thin black frame extends the canvas and adds depth, while a natural wood or gold frame creates a warm contrast. For the forest green style, a black or patinated brass frame works very well. You can also choose to leave the edges bare for a modern and clean look.
Are the colors true to the photos?
The photos faithfully reflect the spirit of the work: a coral red horse leaning towards orange, on a black or forest green background. However, keep in mind that screens do not all render colors in the same way, and the lighting in your room will also influence your perception. Above all, no machine is involved: the artist's brush leaves variations in hue, grain, and stroke on each canvas. It is these nuances that give an original work its value compared to a mass-produced print.
What is the lead time, and can I request a different size?
Each canvas is painted on demand after your order is confirmed. The lead time therefore includes the creation of the work, followed by the time required for the oil to dry to the core before being boxed: plan for a longer wait than an item shipped from a warehouse. If none of the fourteen sizes is suitable, a special dimension can be considered: write to us before purchasing, mentioning the desired background (black or forest green) and your measurements. The artist will adapt the horse's proportions to the new format.
