Recognized Boveda brandBoveda is the global benchmark for two-way humidification for cigar humidors.

BOVEDA 69% — the global standard for two-way humidification

Boveda is the inventor of two-way humidification. Three 69% RH sachets, ready to use, no preparation. Place them, close, and forget—your cigars are safe.

Boveda vs. traditional humidifiers: A traditional humidifier only releases humidity—it can over-humidify your humidor. Boveda is two-way—it absorbs AND releases, maintaining exactly 69% RH. More precise, more reliable, and no monitoring needed.

Frequently asked questions

How many Boveda sachets for my humidor?
Boveda recommends 1 sachet for approximately every 25 cigars. For 50 cigars: 2 sachets. For 100 cigars: 4 sachets. This pack of 3 covers between 50 and 75 cigars, depending on how airtight your humidor is.
Can I mix Boveda with a traditional humidifier?
No—Boveda is designed to work on its own. A traditional humidifier interferes with the two-way regulation and can cause over-humidification. Use either Boveda or a traditional humidifier, not both.
How do I know when to replace the sachets?
The indicator is simple and requires no tools: as long as the sachet feels soft to the touch, it is working. When it becomes hard and rigid, its reserve is depleted and it must be replaced with a new one. The duration of effectiveness is variable depending on the humidor, generally 2 to 6 months: it depends on your humidor's seal, the number of cigars, how often it is opened, and the ambient air, which is drier during heating season. Get in the habit of touching the sachets every time you open the humidor. There is no maintenance to worry about between replacements: no refilling or solution to prepare.
Do I need to season a new humidor before placing the sachets?
Yes, if your humidor is new and made of cedar. Dry wood absorbs a large amount of humidity: without seasoning, it would exhaust your sachets in a few days and could dry out your cigars. First, perform a 24- to 48-hour seasoning: wipe the interior surfaces with a clean cloth lightly dampened with distilled water, without soaking them, then close the humidor with a humidity source. Once the wood is stabilized, place your 69% sachets: they will only need to maintain the balance, which they do much more efficiently. This step is only done once, when you first set up the humidor.
Why choose 69% humidity?
For cigar storage, the reference range is between 65 and 72% relative humidity. The 69% level is the most widely used: it keeps the wrapper supple and the flavors vibrant, while avoiding excess humidity that hinders the draw and evenness of the burn. It is an excellent choice for standard storage, regardless of your cigars' origin, and a safe bet if you are a beginner. Thanks to the two-way technology, the sachets absorb excess moisture and release it when the air gets dry: your humidor stays stabilized around this value without any adjustments from you.
Where should I place the sachets in the humidor?
The sachets are simply placed in the humidor, without needing fasteners or a special holder. For uniform humidification, distribute them rather than stacking them: for example, one on each side, or one on each level if your humidor has a tray. Ensure they remain in contact with the air inside the humidor: do not compress them between boxes and do not enclose them in a closed compartment. Also, leave a little space between the cigars to promote air circulation. Once in place, close the humidor: the sachets immediately begin their regulation work with no further handling required.
Do I need a hygrometer if I use two-way sachets?
It is not essential for the operation of the sachets, but it is highly recommended. A hygrometer confirms that the humidor is indeed stabilizing around 69% and alerts you if an improper seal or an insufficient number of sachets is preventing this value from being reached. It also allows you to monitor the temperature if your model displays it: ideally around 16–20°C (60–68°F), and never consistently above 24°C (75°F). Remember to check its accuracy once or twice a year using the salt test. Sachets and a hygrometer thus form a complementary duo: one regulates, the other controls.
