Frequently Asked Questions
Is it necessary to calibrate the EliteGuard electronic hygrometer?
Electronic hygrometers are generally pre-calibrated. If you want to check the calibration: use the salt method — place it in a sealed bag with a saturated solution of common salt (NaCl) for 8 hours — it should display 75% RH ± 3%.
What is the battery life?
The duration varies depending on the model and the frequency of the display update. Generally, expect 6 to 12 months for standard batteries. A low battery indicator appears on the LCD screen.
Where should I place the EliteGuard in my humidor?
Install the EliteGuard hygrometer inside the humidor, ideally at cigar level: this is where the humidity and temperature reading best reflects their actual storage conditions. Avoid placing it against the humidifier, which would artificially spike the reading, or against a wall exposed to a heat source. If your humidor has a glass top, point the LCD screen toward it: you will be able to check the values without opening, which limits humidity loss. After installation, let the atmosphere stabilize for a few hours before relying on the displayed numbers.
What humidity and temperature values should I aim for?
For optimal storage, aim for a relative humidity of 65 to 72%. Around 65%, cigars offer a lively and even burn; towards 70%, they gain in aromatic roundness. Regarding temperature, a range of about 16 to 20°C is ideal; above 24°C, the risk of mold and insect infestation significantly increases. This is the main benefit of the EliteGuard, which displays both parameters simultaneously: you can immediately spot a drift and react by recharging the humidifier or moving the humidor away from a heat source. Aim for stability above all.
Why does the display vary after opening the humidor?
This is perfectly normal and demonstrates the responsiveness of an electronic hygrometer. Each time it is opened, room air, which is often drier, mixes with the atmosphere of the humidor: the EliteGuard immediately records a drop in humidity, sometimes by several points, and possibly a change in temperature. Once the humidor is closed, the humidifier and the interior wood gradually restore the balance, usually within a few dozen minutes to a few hours. To judge your storage, rely on the stabilized value, taken after the humidor has been closed for a while. Also, limit the duration of openings.
What is the difference between the Gold and Silver finishes?
The difference is purely aesthetic: both finishes offer the same electronic technology, the same LCD screen, and the same combined humidity and temperature measurement. The Gold finish adds a warm and classic touch, in harmony with varnished wood humidors and gold-colored hinges and locks. The Silver finish takes a more contemporary approach, ideal for carbon fiber, acrylic, or metal-trimmed humidors. Choose the one that best matches your humidor or the style of the person you are giving it to: the precision remains identical.
Is the EliteGuard a good gift idea?
Absolutely. The hygrometer determines the proper preservation of an entire collection, and many enthusiasts settle for a long time with an imprecise original model. The EliteGuard provides them with a clear electronic reading, the simultaneous display of humidity and temperature, and a polished design in Gold or Silver finish. It is a useful gift that one checks every time they open their humidor. Ideal for a birthday, Father's Day, or the holiday season. Pair it with a humidifier from our selection to offer a complete storage set.
