Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Square Z150 suitable for my humidor?
The Square Z150 is sized for standard-sized humidors. For large humidors (100+ cigars), use 2 units for even humidification. For small travel cases, the format may be slightly oversized.
How do I activate the Square Z150 before its first use?
Activation is quick. Gradually moisten the absorbent floral foam of the Square Z150 with distilled water or a 50/50 propylene glycol solution until it is well impregnated, without excess. Let it sit for a few minutes, then carefully wipe off any excess: no liquid should bead, as liquid in contact with cigars can stain the wrappers or encourage mold. Then place the humidifier in your humidor and let everything stabilize for about a day before storing your cigars. A hygrometer will indicate when the humidity reaches the correct zone.
Distilled water or propylene glycol solution: which to choose?
Both work with the Square Z150, but their behavior differs. Distilled water humidifies effectively; it is well suited for dry humidors or initial setups, but does not prevent over-humidification if the foam is too saturated. The 50/50 propylene glycol and distilled water solution has a regulating effect: it tends to maintain humidity around 70%, by releasing moisture when the air becomes dry and limiting excesses. This is the most recommended solution for worry-free preservation. In any case, avoid tap water, as its limescale will clog the foam.
How often should I refill the Square Z150?
The frequency depends on the size of your humidor, the number of cigars, how often it is opened, and the ambient humidity of the room. In practice, a refill every one to three weeks is common, more often in winter when heating dries out the air. The best indicator remains your hygrometer: as soon as the humidity drops below 65%, it is time to re-moisten the foam. Avoid overcharging the humidifier as a precaution: excess humidity is as harmful as a lack thereof, with a risk of irregular combustion or mold. Aim for a stable range of 65 to 72%.
Where should I place the Square Z150 in my humidor?
The Square Z150 is placed directly in the humidor, without mounting. Thanks to its flat format of 97 × 66 × 15 mm, it easily slips into a corner, on a tray, or against a wall. The ideal is to place it high up when the layout allows: the humid air then diffuses naturally downward and envelops all the cigars. Ensure that the foam is never in direct contact with the wrappers, and leave a slight space around the humidifier to encourage air circulation. Install your hygrometer on the opposite side for a representative measurement.
How do I maintain the Square Z150 and when should I replace it?
Good maintenance ensures healthy long-term humidification. Use exclusively distilled water or a propylene glycol solution: limescale from tap water gradually clogs the foam and reduces its effectiveness. Inspect the humidifier at each refill. If the floral foam hardens, discolors, gives off an unusual odor, or shows the slightest trace of mold, replace it rather than trying to clean it. Never wash it with detergent, which would leave residues and odors absorbed by your cigars. Simply wipe the plastic case with a clean, dry cloth.
Should I use the Square Z150 with a hygrometer?
This is highly recommended. The humidifier provides moisture, but only a hygrometer allows you to know if your humidor is in the correct zone, between 65 and 72% relative humidity. Without measurement, it is impossible to know when to refill the foam, or to spot a humidor that is too humid (prone to mold) or too dry (which weakens the wrappers). Place the hygrometer away from the Square Z150, in the heart of the humidor, and check it regularly, especially the first few weeks. You will find needle or electronic hygrometers in our collection, suitable for all humidors.
