Frequently asked questions

What solution should I use with the Barez?
The Barez works with distilled water or a 50/50 propylene glycol + distilled water solution. The propylene glycol solution is recommended for natural regulation towards 70% RH.
How do I activate the Barez before its first use?
Activation is simple. Moisten the Barez's absorbent sponge with distilled water or a 50/50 propylene glycol solution, pouring gradually until it is well impregnated, without excess. Let it rest for a few minutes, then carefully wipe off the surplus: no drops should bead, as liquid in direct contact with cigars can stain wrappers or promote mold. Then install the humidifier in your case and let everything stabilize for a day before storing your cigars. Never use tap water: limestone clogs the sponge and chlorine alters the aromas.
How often should the Barez be recharged?
The frequency depends on several factors: the size of your case, the number of cigars it contains, the frequency of opening, and the ambient humidity of the room. In practice, a recharge every one to three weeks is common, more often in winter when heating dries out the air. The best indicator remains a hygrometer: as soon as the humidity drops below 65%, it is time to re-moisten the sponge. Aim for a range of 65 to 72% relative humidity. Avoid overloading the humidifier as a precaution: excess humidity is just as harmful to your cigars as a lack thereof, with a risk of uneven burning or mold.
Is the Barez suitable for the size of my humidor?
The Barez is sized for travel cases and small desktop humidors up to approximately 40 cigars. Its elongated format of 158 × 17 × 18 mm allows it to easily fit along a wall or under a lid, where a wider humidifier would not fit. Before ordering, simply check that your case offers a space at least 16 cm long. For a larger humidor, with a capacity close to 100 cigars, we offer the larger BIG BAREZ humidifier. In an intermediate humidor, two Barez units placed on either side can also ensure more homogeneous humidification.
Where should I place the Barez in my case?
The Barez is placed directly in the case, without complex mounting. The ideal is to place it high up, for example against the lid or on top of a wall: the humid air, being lighter, then diffuses naturally downwards and envelopes all the cigars. Ensure that the sponge is not in direct contact with the wrappers, to avoid any stains or overly damp zones. Also leave a slight space around the humidifier to promote air circulation. In a travel case, make sure it is well-secured so it does not move during transport and rub against your cigars.
What is the difference between the Black, Gold, and Silver colors?
The difference is purely aesthetic. The three colors, Black, Gold, and Silver, are based on the same absorbent sponge principle, the same 158 × 17 × 18 mm dimensions, and the same capacity of approximately 40 cigars. The choice is therefore made according to the desired harmony with your case: Black blends discreetly into a dark interior or a carbon fiber case, Gold matches gold hardware and warm woods, while Silver brings a contemporary touch to metallic finishes. Regardless of the color, the humidification efficiency remains strictly identical.
How do I maintain the Barez and when should I replace it?
Good maintenance ensures healthy humidification over the long term. Use exclusively distilled water or a propylene glycol solution: limestone from tap water gradually clogs the sponge and reduces its effectiveness. Inspect the humidifier at each recharge. If the sponge hardens, discolors, gives off an unusual odor, or shows the slightest trace of mold, it is time to replace it rather than trying to clean it. Never wash it with detergent, which would leave residues and odors absorbed by your cigars. Between prolonged uses, let it dry completely before storing it.
