The hygrometer integrated into the Oasis Vortex provides an indicative reading of the humidity in its direct zone of influence. For a precise measurement of the entire humidor, supplement it with an independent hygrometer positioned opposite the humidifier.
How do I refill the Oasis Vortex?
Use exclusively distilled water or a 50/50 propylene glycol and distilled water solution, the latter helping to stabilize humidity around 70%. Pour gradually, without excess, then carefully wipe off any surplus: no drops should remain, as liquid in contact with cigars can stain the wrapper or encourage mold. Do not use tap water, as its limescale clogs the humidifier and its chlorine alters the aromas. Then put the Oasis Vortex back in place and let the atmosphere stabilize for a few hours: the integrated hygrometer will then show you a reliable value.
How do I attach the Oasis Vortex in my humidor?
The attachment is deliberately simple: the Oasis Vortex comes with a mounting magnet that allows it to be installed on the lid of your humidor, without screws or drilling. Your humidor remains intact. Choose an unobstructed location, preferably in the center of the lid, so that the humidity diffuses evenly toward the cigars. Ensure that once the humidor is closed, the accessory, which is 3.9 cm high, does not come into contact with the cigars. Another advantage of the magnetic system: the Oasis Vortex can be removed in an instant for refilling, then repositioned in exactly the same place without complex handling.
Is the Oasis Vortex suitable for my humidor?
With its dimensions of Ø 9.5 cm × 3.9 cm, the Oasis Vortex fits in most standard-sized humidors. Before ordering, check two points: that the interior surface of the lid offers a space of at least 9.5 cm in diameter, and that there is a space of about 4 cm between the lid and the top of your cigars once the humidor is closed. For a very large humidor, an auxiliary humidifier can supplement the Oasis Vortex to ensure uniform humidification. In any case, the integrated hygrometer quickly tells you if the humidor reaches the ideal range of 65 to 72%.
How often should the Oasis Vortex be refilled?
The frequency depends on the size of your humidor, its airtightness, the number of cigars, how often it is opened, and the ambient humidity. In practice, refilling every one to three weeks is common, more often in winter when heating dries out the air. This is the whole advantage of the Oasis Vortex: its integrated hygrometer tells you directly the right moment. As soon as the humidity drops below 65%, it is time to refill. Aim for a range of 65 to 72% relative humidity and avoid overloading the humidifier as a precaution: excess humidity is just as harmful to your cigars as a lack thereof.
What humidity level should I aim for in the humidor?
For optimal storage, aim for a relative humidity between 65 and 72%. Around 65%, cigars maintain a lively and even burn; toward 70%, they develop more aromatic roundness. If the Oasis Vortex hygrometer indicates a lower value, refill the humidifier; if it consistently exceeds 72%, leave the humidor slightly open for a few moments or remove a little liquid. Stability is just as important as the value: avoid sudden changes. Regarding temperature, a range of approximately 16 to 20°C is ideal, away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
How do I check the accuracy of the integrated hygrometer?
The reference method is the salt test. Place a small cup of table salt, slightly moistened to the consistency of wet sand, in an airtight bag or container with the Oasis Vortex, humidifier empty and dry so as not to distort the result, without direct contact with the salt. Seal it and wait 6 to 12 hours at a stable room temperature: the relative humidity then stabilizes at approximately 75%. The difference between this value and the displayed reading corresponds to the offset of the hygrometer, which should be factored into your readings. Repeat this check once or twice a year.
