CALINGA ROUND — polymer crystals for simple humidification
The Calinga Round is the crystal humidifier for the aficionado who wants simplicity. Distilled water only, magnetic plate, transparent crystals. No solution to prepare, no complexity.
How do I refill the Calinga Round?
Remove the humidifier from the humidor. Soak the crystals in distilled water for about ten minutes — let them fully absorb. Gently pat dry to remove excess surface water. Place back in the humidor. The crystals will gradually release the moisture.
How often should the Calinga Round be refilled?
Polymer crystals release their moisture gradually, usually over several weeks. The exact frequency depends on the volume of your humidor, the number of cigars, how often it is opened, and the room humidity; in winter, heating significantly shortens the interval. Two indicators will guide you: your hygrometer, which should not drop below 65%, and the appearance of the crystals, which shrink when they have released their water. Simply soak them in distilled water again for ten minutes, drain excess water, and replace the humidifier.
Where and how do I install the Calinga Round in my humidor?
The Calinga Round is equipped with a magnetic plate that facilitates its mounting inside the humidor, without screws or adhesive. Preferably, choose a high position, for example under the lid or on the upper part of a wall: humid air will naturally diffuse downward. Verify beforehand that your humidor provides a surface compatible with magnetic mounting. Ensure that the humidifier does not directly touch the cigars and leave a small space around it for air circulation. Keep it away from the hygrometer to avoid skewed readings.
Is the Calinga Round suitable for the size of my humidor?
The Calinga Round is designed for humidifying desktop cigar humidors. Proper sizing is simply verified through use: once the humidifier is installed and the humidor has been closed for a few hours, your hygrometer should stabilize in the ideal zone of 65 to 72%. If humidity struggles to rise, especially in a large humidor or during heating season, add a second humidifier opposite the first for more uniform diffusion. If it exceeds the zone, briefly open the humidor slightly. For a specific configuration, our customer service will be happy to advise you.
Why should I not use propylene glycol solution?
The acrylic polymer crystals in the Calinga Round are designed to absorb and release distilled water only. Propylene glycol solution, intended for sponge humidifiers, degrades these crystals and compromises their ability to regulate humidity. Tap water is also discouraged: its limescale accumulates in the crystals and its chlorine can alter the aromas of your cigars. Distilled water, available in supermarkets or pharmacies, is both economical and perfectly neutral. It is the guarantee of healthy and sustainable humidification, without any solution preparation.
How do I maintain the Calinga Round and when should I replace it?
Maintenance comes down to a few good practices. Always rehydrate the crystals with distilled water to avoid any limescale build-up. At each refill, observe them: they should remain translucent and odorless. In case of discoloration, unusual odor, or signs of mold, replace the humidifier rather than trying to clean it. Never use detergent: its residues would be absorbed by your cigars. Wipe the plate with a soft, dry cloth. If the humidor remains unused for a long time, let the crystals dry out before storing the humidifier.
What humidity level should I aim for with the Calinga Round?
For optimal preservation, aim for a relative humidity of 65 to 72%. Around 65%, cigars maintain a lively and consistent burn; towards 70%, they develop more roundness. Below this, they dry out and lose their aromas; above 75%, the risk of mold and difficult combustion increases. Therefore, pair the Calinga Round with a reliable hygrometer, which you should check occasionally using the salt test. As for temperature, a temperate room, around 16 to 20°C, away from sunlight and radiators, ideally complements the humidification.
