Why hand-crafted piano lacquer?

Piano lacquer paint is a finishing technique derived from instrument making. It consists of applying several layers of polyurethane lacquer onto bare wood, with each layer sanded by hand before the next is applied, over the course of several days or even weeks. The result is a mirror finish of incomparable depth, which reveals the natural wood grain while creating an ultra-glossy, scratch-resistant surface.

This technique has historically been used on concert grand pianos (Steinway, Bösendorfer, Yamaha), high-end automotive dashboards (Rolls-Royce, Bentley), and certain prestigious watch cases. Its hand-crafted manufacture ensures that no two pieces are identical — each Atmos is unique due to the shades of its wood and the reflections of its lacquer. It is this artisanal dimension that justifies the high-end positioning of the winder: piano finishes cannot be mass-produced. For the recipient, it is the assurance of an exceptional object, in line with the great European crafts.

THE ATMOS SPIRIT: BRITISH DESIGN AND PIANO FINISH

The Atmos explicitly claims the heritage of the British Design Watch Box — that English tradition of horological cabinetmaking dating back to the 18th century, when London dominated the trade of pocket watches and their fine wood cases. Mahogany and Rosewood are precisely the iconic essences of this tradition — woods imported from the colonies and crafted by English cabinetmakers for wealthy enthusiasts. The choice of piano finish adds an extra dimension: it places the Atmos in a lineage of high-precision instrument making — a world where perfection of finish is never secondary. The fingerprint reader, touchscreen, and color-changing LEDs introduce technological modernity into this heritage case, creating an object that is simultaneously traditional in its materials and contemporary in its features. Particularly well-suited for a collector’s study, a classic executive office, a cozy library, or a characterful living room that values the alliance of tradition and innovation.

How to use the Atmos

1
Choice of capacity and wood. Capacity based on your collection (2 to 12 slots, accounting for 2 extra for expansion). Wood based on your interior: Mahogany for a warm, classic feel, Rosewood for an assertive, grand presence.
2
Registering fingerprints. During first use, register your authorized fingerprints via the touchscreen menu. Multiple prints can be stored — practical for a couple or family sharing access.
3
Configuration via LED touchscreen. Select each slot individually and set its rotation direction (clockwise, counter-clockwise, bidirectional) and TPD according to the watch's caliber. Activate the color-changing LEDs for display mode, or deactivate them for discreet use.
4
Placement and daily locking. Place each watch on its universal rotor. Close the lid — biometric locking activates automatically, and the lid sensor will stop the rotors upon the next opening. Use the remote control for daily adjustments without needing to manipulate the winder directly.

Which Atmos capacity to choose?

Capacity Dimensions Ideal for
2 slots 21.5 × 25 × 23 cm Couple or startup with biometric security
4 slots 21.5 × 25 × 33 cm Established secure collection (3-4 pieces)
6 slots 21.5 × 25 × 43 cm Experienced collector (5-6 pieces)
9 slots 21.5 × 35 × 43 cm Discerning enthusiast (7-9 pieces)
12 slots Extended configuration Exceptional collector, true centerpiece

Mahogany or Rosewood — how to choose? Both woods offer the same technical performance; the choice is purely aesthetic. Mahogany: warm, deep reddish-brown hue, aligns with the classic British horological cabinetmaking tradition — ideal for traditional interiors, cozy libraries, or classic executive offices. Rosewood: intense red-burgundy hue, assertive grand presence, our most exclusive exotic wood — ideal for the collector who wants a statement piece, a characterful contemporary interior, or to give a particularly striking gift.

Lid sensor — mechanical security in addition to biometric: the integrated sensor automatically detects when the lid is opened and immediately stops the rotation of all rotors. This safety feature prevents any risk of impact, ejection, or scratching of watches during insertion or removal. It is complementary protection to the biometric lock: security against unauthorized access (fingerprint) is doubled with mechanical manipulation security (lid sensor). Upon closing, the cycle automatically resumes to the programmed modes.

For automatic watches only. The Atmos is exclusively designed for automatic rotor calibers. It is not suitable for quartz (battery-powered) watches, solar watches, manual-winding watches (which are wound only by the crown), or smartwatches. Placing these types of watches in a winder is unnecessary and can, in some cases, damage the movement.

Frequently asked questions

Why hand-crafted piano lacquer?
Piano lacquer paint is a technique derived from instrument making (Steinway, Bösendorfer): several layers of lacquer applied to bare wood, each sanded by hand before the next, over several days. The result is an exceptional mirror finish that reveals the natural wood grain while creating an ultra-glossy surface. Each Atmos is unique in its wood nuances and lacquer reflections — it is this artisanal dimension that justifies its high-end positioning.
How does the fingerprint lock work?
The Atmos biometric sensor allows you to register multiple authorized fingerprints via the touchscreen menu. Only these prints can unlock access to the watches. No keys to lose, no codes to memorize. It is the same biometric technology found in modern safes. Practical for a couple or family sharing access — multiple prints can be stored and deleted at any time.
How does the lid sensor work?
An integrated sensor automatically detects when the lid is opened and immediately stops the rotation of all rotors. This mechanical safety feature prevents any risk of impact, ejection, or scratching of the watches while inserting or removing them. It complements the biometric security (fingerprint)—two complementary levels of protection. Once closed, the cycle automatically resumes according to the programmed modes.
Which wood species should I choose: Mahogany or Rosewood?
Both offer the same performance; the choice is purely aesthetic. Mahogany: a warm, deep reddish-brown hue, a tradition of classic British watchmaking cabinetry—ideal for a traditional interior, library, or executive office. Rosewood: an intense red-bordeaux hue, an assertive, stately presence, exclusive exotic wood—ideal for a collector who wants a statement piece or a particularly striking gift.
Can the color-changing LEDs be turned off?
Yes—the color-changing LEDs can be fully turned on or off via the touchscreen or the remote control. Showcase mode (LEDs on): for presentation, evening events, or simply to admire the collection in dynamic light. Discreet mode (LEDs off): for daily use in a bedroom or office without extra light. The winder functions normally in both modes—the lighting is purely decorative.
Which Atmos capacity should I choose?
Choose based on your collection, planning for 2 additional slots for future growth. 2 slots: for a couple or getting started. 4 slots: established collection of 3-4 pieces. 6 slots: experienced collector. 9 slots: dedicated enthusiast with 7-9 pieces. 12 slots: exceptional collector, a true centerpiece with a guaranteed "wow" effect. The 12-slot Rosewood version is the most visually spectacular.
Does the Atmos make a good gift?
It is the ultimate exceptional gift for a collector whose watches deserve both biometric protection and a stunning presentation. The combination of handcrafted piano lacquer + fingerprint sensor + color-changing LEDs + independent Mabuchi motors represents the pinnacle of the category. The choice between Mahogany or Rosewood allows you to tailor it to the recipient. The 12-slot Rosewood version is the most spectacular when opening the package. Ideal for major birthdays, retirement, significant promotions, weddings, or high-end corporate gifts.
