Red & whiteHand-painted14 sizes

Imagine a burning horizon set against a field of snow. Scarlet Energy traverses its white canvas with a wide vermilion red band, fringed at the top with a dark brown line and extended downwards by ochre and golden drips that melt into the white. Above and below, vast, light-filled areas—worked in very pale white and gray veils—allow the color to breathe and give it all its power. This abstract oil painting, created by hand by our artists, plays on a simple and radical contrast: a single chromatic accent, but of rare intensity. The texture of the canvas and the subtle nuances of the paint make the red vibrate, appearing by turns orange, carmine, or brick-colored depending on the light. It comes in fourteen sizes, from the small 40 x 60 cm to the large 150 x 220 cm panel (other dimensions available upon request), and arrives unframed, painted especially for you. In a gray living room, a minimalist entryway, or an office with clean lines, it immediately instills energy and emotion.

One composition, fourteen sizes

The canvas exists in a single composition, presented vertically in all our photos. Only the dimension is to be chosen, from 40 x 60 to 150 x 220 cm, with a custom option available upon request.

Interpretation

A landscape reduced to the essential

Scarlet Energy belongs to the family of landscape abstractions: without representing anything specific, it evokes a horizon line. The red band can be read as a sunset, a lava flow, or a field of poppies seen from afar; the brown trim above it acts as a distant relief; the ochre drips below recall a reflection on water. Everyone projects their own image onto it.

Technically, the painting’s strength lies in its balance. The red occupies only a fraction of the surface, but the large white zones surrounding it, applied in light and slightly textured layers, isolate it and make it appear even more intense. Oil paint, with its depth and brilliance, allows for this saturated red that more matte pigments would not render with the same vibration.

Red, the color of momentum

Red is the color of vitality, warmth, and passion. Used on a large scale, it can be tiring; concentrated in a single band as it is here, it becomes an anchor point that energizes the entire room without overwhelming it. This is the principle of contemporary interiors that rely on a neutral base—white, gray, black, wood—and a single, strong accent.

Our photos show the canvas next to a black metal armchair, above a white fluted piece of furniture near a staircase, between two dark wood panels with a gray velvet armchair, or above a bench with a mustard yellow throw blanket. This last detail shows how a single colored textile can extend the painting's palette into the room.

Installing Scarlet Energy

1
Choose a quiet wall, ideally white, light gray, or concrete, so that the red band stands out fully.
2
Determine the size: medium above a console or bench, large or very large for a living room wall.
3
Have the canvas mounted on a frame or in a border upon receipt; a thin black frame, as seen in our photos, reinforces the graphic quality.
4
Place the red band at eye level, around 1.50 m from the floor, for optimal visual balance.
An original, not a print: the artist paints Scarlet Energy for each order. The thickness of the red band, the length of the drips, the grain of the whites: nothing will be strictly identical to our photos. This made-to-order process also means waiting a little longer for your package.
Styling idea: echo the red or ochre of the painting in a single object in the room, such as a cushion, a vase, or a throw blanket. No need to overdo it: a subtle reminder is enough to create harmony, like the mustard throw in our last photo.

Frequently asked questions

What does Scarlet Energy represent?
This is an abstract painting: it does not depict a specific subject, but it strongly suggests a landscape. The wide red band, the brown trim above, and the ochre drips below evoke a horizon line, a sunset over a snowy plain, or a lava flow. This ambiguity is intentional: everyone can read their own image into it, and perception changes according to mood and light. That is the strength of such abstractions: they do not become tiresome, as they always leave a part of the interpretation to the viewer.
Is the red as bright as in the photos?
The red of Scarlet Energy is an intense vermilion, nuanced with touches of orange and carmine, just as seen in our photos. However, keep in mind that every screen displays colors differently and the lighting in your room will also change your perception. Under natural northern light, the red will appear a bit cooler and deeper; under a warm-light lamp, it will lean toward orange. Finally, the artist's brush never goes over the exact same spot twice: your red will have its own nuances.
Which wall colors should I pair it with?
The safest choice is a neutral wall: white, off-white, light gray, or waxed concrete, as in our photos. The contrast then fully highlights the red band. An anthracite gray also works very well and provides a more dramatic atmosphere, provided the canvas remains well-lit. Dark woodwork, in walnut or smoked oak, also forms a warm setting. Conversely, avoid already highly colored walls—strong greens or blues—which would compete with the red and blur the reading of the work.
What size should I choose above furniture?
Decorators recommend a canvas slightly narrower than the furniture, around 65 to 70% of its width. Above a 100 cm console, a format 60 to 70 cm wide is ideal; above a 160 cm sideboard, aim for 100 to 120 cm instead. Since the composition is vertical, the canvas gains presence in height: a slender format like 80 x 120 or 100 x 160 cm creates a striking gallery effect. For an open wall without furniture, the very large formats up to 150 x 220 cm become a true centerpiece.
How should this canvas be framed?
The canvas arrives bare, without mounts or borders. First step: have a professional stretch it onto a wooden frame. You can then leave the edges bare for a very sleek contemporary look, or surround it with a frame. In our photos, a thin black frame highlights the red and white contrast and provides a graphic and elegant look. A light natural wood frame will soften the overall effect, while a float frame (caisse américaine) will leave a slight gap between the canvas and the frame, like in an art gallery.
Can I order a custom size?
Yes. The fourteen sizes offered range from 40 x 60 to 150 x 220 cm, but a custom dimension is possible for a particular wall, a nook, or a space between two doors. Send us your measurements before confirming your purchase. Since nothing is pre-painted, the artist recomposes the canvas for your proportions while maintaining the ratio between the red band and the whites. The only constraint is allowing the oil enough time to dry before shipping. Remember to specify the desired hanging orientation, as our photos all show the canvas vertically.
How do I preserve the radiance of the red and white?
Two main enemies: direct sunlight and greasy dust. Hang the canvas out of reach of sun rays coming through a window, as UV rays eventually fade the pigments and yellow the whites. Also, avoid immediate proximity to a kitchen or a fireplace. On a daily basis, a soft-bristled brush brushed lightly over the surface removes dust. Avoid sponges, water, and detergents, which dull the oil. In case of a major stain, entrust the canvas to a restorer rather than intervening yourself.
